Norman Sheff, 94 of Suffern, New York (formerly of Yonkers)
August 15, 1930 – July 1, 2025
Norman Sheff, a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and veteran, passed away at the age of 94. A recent resident of Suffern, New York, Norman spent most of his life in Yonkers, where he and his wife Judy shared nearly 70 years of marriage.
Norman is survived by Judy and by their children Jill Ojserkis (Charles), Douglas (Michiko), and Linda Schoff Colletti (Dean), as well as grandchildren Amanda Sheff, David Ojserkis, Benjamin Ojserkis, Alex “Norm” Schoff and Quinn Schoff, who brought him great joy and pride. He was predeceased by his parents, Pearl and Leon Sheff and his sister, Shirley Gersten.
As a young boy in the Bronx, he worked in his parents’ grocery store, where he learned to speak Yiddish—a language he loved and used throughout his life whenever he could find someone to speak it with.
Norman served his country during the Korean War, stationed in France. His military service was a source of great pride throughout his life.
A successful businessman, Norman owned both a stock brokerage firm and an insurance firm, and remained active in his profession until recently. He was deeply committed to his Jewish faith, and held the distinction of being the longest-standing member of the Northeast Jewish Center in Yonkers.
Norman had a lifelong passion for comic books and memorabilia, and he delighted in collecting and sharing them. He enjoyed playing pool and billiards which he excelled at, watching Jeopardy, classic films, and PBS programs, and he was always ready with a joke or pun—some of which were funny.
Graveside services will be held at the Frederick Loescher Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 220 Brick Church Road, Spring Valley, New York on Monday, July 7, 2025 at 10:00 a.m.
Donations in Norman’s memory can be made to Northeast Jewish Center, 11 Salisbury Road, Yonkers, NY 10710 or https://www.northeastjewishcenter.org/donate
