Gloria LeVine (nee Silver), aged 89, died on Tuesday, May 14, 2019 at her Somers home surrounded by family members. From her birth on May 26, 1929 to her death on Tuesday, she nourished the people around her with love, intelligence, personal strength and caring.
She grew up in the Bronx, the middle child of 3 girls. As a survivor of childhood polio she did not allow her illness to impact her quality of life or many achievements. After graduation from Music & Art High School, she received a bachelors and master’s degree. Gloria retired from the Ramapo School District after spending many years in the classroom as a preschool and elementary school teacher, but true to form, being ahead of the times, her last position before retirement she oversaw teacher education during the implementation of Apple computers into the classrooms. She was an accomplished musician, cook and baker, took up painting late in life and was an avid bridge player. She and her lifelong love, Ralph, traveled extensively and nurtured a loving home for her family and friends.
Left to honor her and remember her love are her children David (Shelley) LeVine, Beth (Paul) Brill and Marcy Orth along with her 6 grandchildren; Matthew (Brittany Pflieger) Brill, Corinne LeVine, Evan Orth, Aaron Brill, Noah Orth, Melissa Orth; her sister Barbara (Marty) Miller, her nieces and nephews; Julie Miller, Steven (Sharyn) Rudinger, Richard (Josette) Rudinger, Pam (Arnie) Levin and Lowell (Sherry) Mark. Gloria was preceded in death by her parents, Mollie and Herman Silver, her husband of 50 years Ralph, her sister Honey Eckhaus and nephew Paul Miller. A graveside service will be held on Friday, May 17th at Sharon Gardens Cemetery (273 Lakeview Ave, Valhalla, NY, 10595) at 10:30 am. (Please join the family at the office and we will proceed to the gravesite).
