Obituary of Beverly Russ

Beverly Selma Schneider, devoted wife of Manuel Russ and a devoted mother of Ronald Russ and daughter-in-law Karen Madej, and Peter Russ, died peacefully after a short illness on April 29, 2017 . Beverly was predeceased by her parents Morris and Nettie (Golder) Schneider along with older brother Melvin Schneider. She grew up in Borough Park, Brooklyn and received a Bachelor of Science degree from Brooklyn College and later, a Master’s in Library Science degree from Rutgers University in 1959. She Married Manuel Russ in 1961. Beverly worked as a children’s librarían in several different branches in the New York Public Library system. She took time off from her career when they decided to start a family raising sons Ronald and Peter. Beverly went back to work part-time for the Brooklyn Public Library system in 1983 and full-time in 1987. In later years, she worked as a generalist served all age groups. Beverly was a proud librarian and an excellent story teller and loved to share the love of reading to young children. In addition, she loved helping people and always went the extra mile to help the patrons that she served. She retired from the Brooklyn Public Library in 1999 and spent her golden years being good, kind and caring to all her family and friends. She is survived by her husband, Manuel, sons Ronald (Karen) and Peter; nieces Jane (Evan) Turk and Nancy (Douglas) Schneider-Gardner, and other family members and many friends. Her funeral will take place on Wednesday, May 3rd, 11 AM at the Weinstein, Garlick, Kirschenbaum Chapels located at 1153 Coney Island Avenue (off Avenue H) Brooklyn, NY 11230 and will be buried next to her parents at the Montefiore Cemetery in Springfield Gardens, Queens, NY.
