The Korngut family mourns the loss of David Korngut, beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, who passed away on March 8, 2025, at the age of 77.
Born and raised in Sheepshead Bay, Brooklyn, David was a man of great integrity, warmth, and humor. From an early age, he embodied a strong work ethic, becoming a teacher before pursuing a career in law. After earning his law degree while teaching at night, he dedicated his professional life to serving others with intelligence, sincerity, and deep care for his clients.
David built a successful career as a lawyer specializing in the hospitality industry in New York City, with his son Benjamin. Over the years, he became a trusted advocate for countless restaurant and bar owners, guiding them through the complexities of the business with expertise, fairness, and a sharp knowledge of the law. David was especially beloved within the Irish community, as well as several other diverse groups in the New York City hospitality industry.
David met his wife Barbara, at Brooklyn College, and together they built a life filled with love, family, and enduring partnership for over 54 years. A devoted father, he encouraged his children to explore opportunities he never had and instilled in them the values of hard work, responsibility, and kindness. His unwavering support extended beyond his family to his friends and colleagues.
David had a unique ability to make those around him feel valued and cared for. Whether offering legal guidance, sharing a kind word, or simply making someone laugh with his sharp wit, he touched the lives of many.
David was preceded in death by his beloved son, Aaron. He is survived by his wife Barbara, his children Benjamin, Eva, and Hershel, his cherished grandchildren Samuel, Lillian and Charles, and his brother Robert.
David’s legacy of love, hard work, kindness, and generosity will live on in the hearts of all who had the privilege of knowing him.
