April 14, 1934 – March 30, 2018 Adored father and devoted husband Joe Straus passed peacefully in his home on March 30. Joe grew up in the Bronx, New York from modest beginnings and built, with his wife, one of the most significant outdoor lighting companies in the United States, US Pole Company, based in Palmdale California. Joe was an icon in the lighting industry. He founded the company in 1984 and worked there for thirty years, up until the end of his life. He was especially proud that all manufacturing was done in the United States. He loved his company and his two hundred employees. His commitment to US Pole was second only to his family. Joe is survived by Jody, his wife of 54 years, who was his motivation for everything. He is also survived by his daughter, Jillian Straus, grandchildren, Skylar Straus, Summer Sampson and Jade Sampson, his son-in-law, Brian Sampson, his sister Prabha Atwood, and his nephews, Michael Blum and Adam Blum. He was known for his generosity and his integrity and beloved by many. He will be deeply missed. Donations can be made to The Michael J. Fox Foundation, a cause close to his heart.
