    Dear Matt,

Ever since Lenora and I became friends at the age of 15, I have known her as brilliant, fearless, warm, caring, passionate, resourceful and confident. The world is already a poorer, paler, scarier place without her in it. Lenora’s passing gives the word ‘loss’ a new meaning, painfully literal in its implications and scope. I can’t begin to imagine how it must feel for you and Izzy; how it must be for you to wake up without her and go to sleep without her each fragile day.

I hope that you both will take some comfort in all the well-deserved accolades bestowed on her, now and for the future, from the many people whose lives she touched, directly and indirectly. I will miss her terribly as a true, lifelong friend and as one of the world’s fiercest, most gifted advocates for women’s rights and gender equality. Her absence is an ache beyond measure.

Wishing you courage and strength, healing and love…

With a broken heart and sincerest condolences,
    Hollis
