Dear B’ShERT family,
I’m so sad to share with you that long-time congregant Michaela Kane Schaeffer has died. Our hearts are with Mickey’s husband Henry, daughter Mary, son William, son-in-law Brian Stemmer, daughter-in-law Nancy Maron, and grandchildren Julia, Ben, Jennie Lotova, Beatrice, and Sophia.
The funeral will be tomorrow, Tuesday, August 11, at 2 pm, at Weinstein Garlick Kirschenbaum Chapels, 1153 Coney Island Avenue in Brooklyn.
Please only come in person if you are a close friend of the family, and then please wear a mask and maintain six-foot social distancing at all times. I know this will be very difficult, but in these times it is important for keeping each other safe.

I am sorry to not be there today, in person, to offer my condolences. If Mickey had gone to medical school or been elected president, coronavirus would have turned tail and run, and we could all gather in person to mourn and hear stories about a spectacular life fully lived.
I am blessed with having known Michaela for my entire life. She was a model for me in how she lived so deliberately, making value- and love-driven choices in all she did, a one-woman force of tikkun olam. She was an inspiration for me for building community and how to keep those bonds healthy.
As her life has been, may her memory be a blessing for us all.
