If you choose to have a chapel service, you should plan on being at the funeral home approximately one hour before the scheduled start of the service (funeral services almost always start exactly on time!) in order to take care of any unfinished paperwork, view the deceased and to be available to acknowledge family and friends coming to the service. The average service is anywhere from 20 to 30 minutes. However, if other people besides the rabbi are speaking, the length of the service can be up to an hour.
